What's new in the Dominican Republic?

Last week, the new president of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, launched the Responsible Tourism Recovery Plan. This plan seeks to minimize the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic in the country and also to promote responsible recovery prioritizing health, maximizing job creation and economic growth and encouraging the tourism sector to further develop in a sustainable way.

Tourism in the Dominican Republic is moving in the right direction! For instance, international travel searches on Expedia Group sites showed a positive growth during July 2020. These numbers were primarily driven by the Dominican Republic & Puerto Rico, and according to July searches, Punta Cana was among the most requested Caribbean destination (35%).

Covid-19 cases: 95.627
Deaths: 1765 (1.85%)
Last 24h: +648

Travel to the Dominican Republic:

From September 15, 2020 travelers entering the Dominican Republic do not have to present a negative Covid-19 test (no more than 5 days old). Instead, authorities will randomly administer a quick breath test to passengers upon arrival. The breath tests will also be administered to all passengers with symptoms.

Also, from September 15, 2020, the Dominican Republic will grant all tourists staying at a hotel in the Dominican Republic a temporary, FREE travel assistance plan. This plan includes coverage for emergencies, COVID-19 testing, lodging for prolonged stays and costs for changing flights in the event of an infection. This insurance will be provided until December 2020 and will be 100% paid for by the Dominican State.

Where to stay in the Dominican Republic:

We are honored to work with Operation Healing Forces (OHF) and to be part of their retreat program. OHF is a one-of-a-kind non-profit organization that serves America's wounded, ill and injured Special Operations Forces Veterans and their spouses by conducting week long therapeutic missions to help families heal, connect, bond and reengage with each other and their community - at no cost to the family.

OHF provides for their immediate and special needs on costs where the U.S. Department of Defense, Veterans Affairs and TRICARE have gaps. 36 retreats were completed for 2019, 50 retreats were planned for 2020 and 50 retreats planned for 2021.

In July-August, we had the first 3 groups at Villa Blanca in Punta Cana (pictured above). For more information about OHF, please visit their Facebook page.
