What's New in the Dominican Republic

What's new in the Dominican Republic (DR)?

A recent report issued by the Dominican Ministry of Public Health shows that the Dominican Republic has extremely low numbers of Covid-19 infections in tourist areas.

In Punta Cana, the country's main tourist area, there were only 5 cases of the virus reported last week, according to the report. And tourist areas in the DR only account for 0.8% of all infections reported last week, showing a much lower level of risk in these particular areas.

Covid-19 cases: 112.209
Deaths: 2105 (1.88%)
Last 24h: +309

These numbers are subject to change without notice.

The Dominican government has also updated the national curfew - valid until Oct. 17, 2020:

Monday - Friday: 9 pm - 5 am.
Saturday - Sunday: 7 pm - 5 am.

During curfew hours, authorities will allow the transit of tourists moving to/from a port or an airport.

Last week, the PGA Tour was in town for the "Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship" tournament. 144 players spent the week in sunny Punta Cana, competing for a total prize purse of US$ 4 million. The tournament took place at the stunning Corales golf course (a Tom Fazio course) without any spectators due to Covid-19. However, the event was still a success and a big congratulations goes out to the winner, Hudson Swafford (-18).

Most of the players stayed at The Westin Puntacana Resort & Club, while some opted for a private villa at Puntacana Resort & Club.
