Bayaguana Runners Cultural Exploration

This full day excursion to Bayaguana is only available from La Romana & Bayahibe hotels and gives you the unique opportunity to learn more about the destination, to experience a bit of the Dominican culture and lifestyle. Bayaguana was founded in 1606, when Spain resettled colonists from the northern and western part of Hispaniola closer to Santo Domingo. The economy is centered on cattle-ranching and pineapple and rice farming.

Our tour will take you along the old road from San Pedro de Macoris to Santo Domingo, passing through picturesque villages. This is also where many of the main Major League Baseball training camps are located. We'll visit a local school and learn about education in the Dominican Republic, tour a sugarcane field and learn how this sweet cane juice is used e.g. in the production of the delicious Dominican rum...and maybe also have a little taste.

You'll be invited to enjoy a cup of freshly brewed organic coffee, cocoa and to taste a few tropical fruits at a typical Dominican countryside house. Then, you'll walk the streets of the historic town of Bayaguana and visit the important Shrine ”Santo Cristo de Bayaguana”, located in one of the oldest churches in the Dominican Republic (approx. 400 yrs old).

Experience the lifestyle at a local market in Bayaguana and see how the Dominicans sell & buy vegetables, fruit, etc. Maybe you'll even like to buy a few "snacks" for yourself. We'll also stop at the magnificent ”Salto Alto” waterfalls to enjoy a swim (optional) in the cool, clear water and enjoy this stunning landscape.

A typical Dominican lunch buffet with meats, rice, beans, pasta, salad, bread, fruits and beverages is served on a nearby ranch.
