Visit a typical country home to sample fresh exotic Caribbean fruits, roasted coffee, cacao, see and learn how they live from the land and their organic products and have a chance to mingle with the local people.

•Visit the largest and most important cathedral in the country, Basilica de La Altagracia, spiritual catholic mother of the Dominicans, learn about the history of this architectonic marvel. • Riverboat ride along the famous Chavon River, where you'll have an unforgettable trip enjoying a fantastic scenery to the sound of tropical music and with an incredible grilled lobster lunch served on board surrounded by a breathtaking natural landscape which has been the scene of several international movies such as Apocalypse Now and Rambo II.

•Drive thru the fields of Central Romana Corporation, the largest sugar cane plantation in the country. With over 200,000 acres the fields of mill, they are also one of the most extensive in the world. Stop and taste freshly cut sugar cane. Learn about the Dominican Tobacco and see first hand how cigars are made. Also learn about the history of tobacco in the Dominican Republic and its long tradition of making some of the best cigars in the world.

WHAT'S INCLUDED: Transportation with pickup in hotels in Bayahibe and La Romana (transportation may not be available or may be subject to an additional fee from some hotels, tour guide, lobster lunch and beverages. Lobster may not be available from March until the end of June as Dominican law prohibits catching and consuming lobster during “La Veda”, i.e. the lobster reproductive season.

DURATION: Full day, i.e. approximately 8 hours including transportation. The excursion is approximately 5-6 hours.

WHAT TO WEAR AND/OR BRING: Wear comfortable clothes and closed shoes (some walking is required), sun glasses, mosquito repellent, a hat/cap and sun lotion. Bring your camera and cash money (US$) for souvenirs and gratuities.

CHILDREN: This excursion may not be suitable for small children and/or infants although there is no minimum age for children to participate in this excursion. All children must be accompanied by an adult (18+ years old). Children must be 18 years old to consume alcohol.

PRICES: All prices are per person (US$). The price for children is valid only from ages 3-12 years old.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW:

  • This is not a private excursion. This excursion may be available as a private tour – please ask for more information.
  • You may need to pass by other hotels to pick up other people before the excursion begins and to drop off after the excursion ends.
  • Many people like to take gifts along for the locals and children they see during the trip. It is recommended that you bring e.g. clothes, shoes, toys, pencils, pens, paper or other school supplies and give these to the tour guide who will make sure they are properly distributed. Under no circumstances are participants allowed to throw objects from the vehicle. Giving money and candy is strongly discouraged.
  • Participants must understand that off-road driving can be uncomfortable.
  • This excursion is not available for pregnant women or people who suffer from back pain/ mobility problems. If you suffer from any medical conditions or mobility problems, please consult with Group Palmera before making your reservation.
